Field Maintenance Technician (Cape Town)

ENVIRONMENT:
A company dedicated to understanding, supporting, and empowering small business owners and entrepreneurs in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and allied industries is seeking a Field Maintenance Technician. This role requires a blend of electrical and mechanical expertise, with a strong focus on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial and automated systems. The successful candidate will work with production equipment while managing installations, maintenance tasks, and contributing to sales efforts.
 
DUTIES:
Machine Breakdowns & Maintenance:
  • Attend to machine breakdowns promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide reactive maintenance.
  • Perform PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) to minimize future breakdowns.
Equipment Management:
  • Work on a variety of production equipment
  • Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, with a focus on electronics troubleshooting, including Drives, PLCs, and 3-phase systems.
Installation & Troubleshooting:
  • Install equipment and systems, ensuring functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Provide fault finding skills, diagnosing complex issues and resolving them promptly.
  • Repair and install equipment, both on-site and off-site.
Quality Inspections & Reporting:
  • Carry out quality inspections on jobs to ensure standards are met.
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers, ensuring smooth communication and support.
Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Work alongside other engineers, providing leadership where required and working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Train and interact with customers, ensuring effective knowledge transfer.
  • Support company projects, programs, and policies.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Submit service reports, timesheets, expense reports, and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
Travel & On-Site Support:
  • Travel as required for on-site work, installation, and troubleshooting tasks.
 
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar
Technical Skills:
  • Solid experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance (both reactive and preventive).
  • Troubleshooting skills: Excellent fault-finding ability for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems, drives, 3-phase electrical systems, and electronics repair.
  • Experience working with production equipment in industries like FMCG, food, packaging, or automation.
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic system repair experience.
Software & Hardware Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in software and hardware, including the ability to troubleshoot and work with high-level systems and machinery.
  • Competency with test equipment and hand tools for repair and diagnostics.
Communication & Leadership:
  • Experience in customer interaction, providing technical support, and potentially training clients.
Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to various job sites.
  • Independent worker: Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage tasks independently.
  • A strong electro-mechanical aptitude and computer literacy are essential.
